Why this site exists

Akumal means 'place of the turtles' in Mayan, and the green sea turtles that graze the bay's seagrass made it the most famous snorkel stop on the Riviera Maya. The trips sold under its name differ more than the brochures admit: a guided bay session can mean a small-group swim with GoPro photos at $35, a park-entry tour with a certified guide at $38, or a ten-hour coach day from Cancun that adds Tulum's ruins and a cenote before the turtles. Pick wrong and you either pay boarding extras you did not budget or swim the wrong water for your skill.

How we compare

Every listing here was read directly from its booking platform page: price, inclusions, cancellation terms, meeting point, group size, languages, and the honest edges - what the from-price does not cover and what the wind can do to a swim. Review counts and ratings are the platforms' own verified-booking figures. Hard facts - the guided-access rule in the turtle zone, the eco-fees collected at boarding, the Yal-Ku lagoon entry - are checked against official Quintana Roo tourism sources and the operator listings each quarter, and the comparison tables state when the figures were last read.
